Our Agenda:
1. Gathering at the community room in Haslett Public Library @ 1pm
2. Outdoors: Running & collecting/sorting tree leaf ID games
3. Indoors: Learning about MI trees
4. Snack!
5. How to participate in Leafsnap Citizen Science Project
6. Outdoors: Making tree guides
7. Short hike to a multi-ecosystem nature area, including time to play & explore outdoors. We will make leaf rubbings of as many different leaves as possible so each family can have their own MI tree guide to take home
Where: Haslett Public Library
When: Saturday 4 October 2014
Time: 1-4pm (we will leave for hike at about 3pm)
Bring: Hiking gear* & bug repellent (& a mobile computing device, if you have one)
Also bring: at least one adult with a child
To be sure there are enough snacks & materials for your family, if possible, please RSVP by Friday 3 October 2014 @ noon via comments to this blog or
Via [email protected] or [email protected]
*‘Hiking gear’ can be as simple as old sneakers, shoes, or boots that you are comfortable walking 1-2 miles in, and that you don’t mind getting muddy or wet, if there is mud or water on the trails. PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL BE AVOIDING MUDDY AREAS UNTIL WARMER WEATHER. It’s also a great idea to bring sunblock (& bug repellent of some kind!), and a hat can also help protect from the sun. Finally, a water bottle for yourself and child(ren) is important. A small backpack or other easy-to-carry bag to hold the sunblock, bug repellent, hat, and water is very helpful.
