*‘Hiking gear’ can be as simple as old sneakers, shoes, or boots that you are comfortable walking 1-2 miles in, and that you don’t mind getting muddy or wet, if there is mud or water on the trails. It’s also a great idea to bring sunblock (& bug repellant of some kind!), and a hat can also help protect from the sun. Finally, a water bottle for yourself and child(ren) is important. A small backpack or other easy-to-carry bag to hold the sunblock, bug repellant, hat, and water is very helpful.
